Goals and Requirements
Program Information Sheet (pdf)

A major (BA) in Russian Studies will prepare you for a wide range of career options in the private sector, in government, and in education. George Mason graduates in Russian Studies are employed in U.S. firms that sell goods and services to Russia, in technology companies, environmental organizations, as teachers, and as analysts in several agencies of the U.S. Government.

Russia "is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma." Winston Churchill's famous comment about Russia is as apt today as it was over 45 years ago. If you love puzzles and like being challenged, you will enjoy studying Russia, its people, language, culture, history, and politics. In the Russian Studies major, you will learn all the fascinating details about Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great, Catherine the Great, Lenin, Stalin, and Gorbachev.

You will read literary masters such as Chekhov, Tolstoy, and Dostoevsky in the original. You will have the opportunity to spend a summer or semester abroad at a leading university in Moscow. Graduates pursue career options in the private sector, government, technology companies, environmental organizations, and education.
