Center Announces Fall Program

The Center for Eurasian Studies is pleased to announce its fall program. The centerpiece is an exhibit of artwork by Nikolai Getman, a former Gulag prisoner:

Related events:

  • Opening reception with guest speakers including Dr. Lee Edwards, Chairman, Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation and Fellow at the Heritage Foundation.
  • A showing of the film One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich.
  • Lecture by Joshua Rubenstein of Amnesty International, a long-time acquaintance of many dissidents in the Soviet human rights movement. Rubenstein will speak about the Pussy Riot case and human rights in Russia today.
  • Lecture by Center Director Steven Barnes on the Gulag and the things we can learn about it from visual evidence like the Getman paintings.
