Gulag Paintings Reviewed in Washington Post

Mark Jenkins reviews Nikolai Getman's Gulag paintings on exhibition in the Mason Hall Atrium. While some of the paintings have spiritual themes, he notes, "Most of them testify to everyday gulag existence — lice, cold, meager rations — with naked intensity." The Olympiada provides an opportunity for American high school students of Russian to demonstrate their skills in speaking the language by competing before a panel of judges comprised of faculty and upper-level university students.
