Section Information for Spring 2021

Diplomatic Simulations is a hands-on course where scholars learn and apply methods through negotiation and dispute resolutions using situations based on real world global conflicts. This highly interactive course begins with a brief overview of diplomatic history and law and negotiation theory and skills. Next, students role-play various actors such as the head of state, diplomats, presidents of a civil society organization, etc., at a negotiating table. There is a new simulation almost every week covering a variety of hot button issues from around the globe. The simulations are created by the US Department of State and George Mason University for use at the State Department’s Diplomacy Center, Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation, the US Institute ofPeace, Model United Nations Clubs, and more.

GLOA 450-DL2 is a distance education section that meets synchronously. Students should expect to be online on the days and times scheduled.
